He taught at the Escuela Instructores de Arte in San Antonio, Cuba for 7 years and served as the musical director of the touring youth carnaval group, Comparsa Rayitos de Guanajay, for 4 years.

Yosvany played congas with the group Los Artemiseños while they served as the house band for the Cabaret Copa Room in Havana’s Hotel Riviera from 2003-2005. Throughout his career in Cuba, Yosvany belonged to the Empresa de la Música “Antonio María Romeu.” Since relocating to the United States in 2010, Yosvany has worked as a musician and instructor in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Georgia, and Tennessee.

In 2013, Yosvany was awarded the prestigious NALAC Fund for the Arts award by the National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures for his work presenting Afro-Cuban music and drumming to middle Tennessee. He started his Cuban band, Yosvany Y Su Son Tropical, in 2014. The group has since performed at restaurants, clubs, and festivals in Nashville and beyond. As a solo artist, Yosvany has played with internationally-recognized singers Frankie Negrón and Frankie Ruiz, Jr. as well as several Nashville-based salsa and Latin jazz groups. Yosvany plays congas, bongos, tambores batá, cajón, and other hand percussion.

“Every time they perform, they get audiences up on their feet. Even if people are dancing to Cuban music for the first time, the experience is ELECTRIFYING!”

Yosvany and his wife, Valerie Cordero, began this sextet in 2014. The group has performed in venues across Middle Tennessee as well as at schools, universities, festivals, and private events.
